Support This Site

Looking over the fence

As happy as I have been using mambo and joomla for several sites, I also feel uncomfortable about the current development of the projects. I'm not sure if I am the only one who is missing real progress, but to me it seems the real problems like a reasonable user rights handling, accessibility, friendly urls, versioning etc. are only addressed half-hearted if at all.

So while I was preparing a new site it was also time to sneak around and see what else alternatives are out there beside the usual suspects such as drupal, typo3 etc. which all have theire pros and cons when it comes to usability or technical details. Well I didn't expect to find the golden bullet anyway, just wanted to confirm I'm still using the best compromise available when going with mambo or joomla.

But to my big surprise I stumbled over a new open source cms which has all I ever dreamed of as a mambo/joomla user, right out of the box. It has an amazing clean organized backend which you can teach any customer in one hour. An excellent and fine granulated acl letting no wishes open. Friendly urls are created by default. Accessibility right out of the box for both, front- and backend. Versioning with undo to any previous state. Live update so upgrading is a one-click job. Best of all for me as a developer: an amazing good and professional codebase which lets most other cms look tinkered. It's LGPL and so allowes commercial add-ons.

That said, it is not the golden bullet (yet) but at least the silver one, with a most promising future. I'll definitively go to built my next site with it to ge more experience. Oh I nearly forgot to tell you well here is a link to the cms I am talking about.

Don't get me wrong, joomla and mambo are still among the best open source cms, especially because of the immense selection of add-ons. And I will stay committed to my existing projects, even if my favorite cms might be changing.

FacileForms 1.4.7 Security Release

A cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified and fixed in the FacileForms 1.4.7 Security Release. The vulnerability required either PHP's register globals to be enabled, or the RG_EMULATION setting of Joomla/Mambo to on (1) which is unfortunately the default in current joomla and mambo installations. If both register globals as well as RG_EMULATION are off, the exploit was not possible.

It is advised to upgrade to 1.4.7 ASAP, and for your own safety also turn off register globals and RG_EMULATION. FacileForms 1.4.7 is available now in the Download Section, and there is a patch available for 1.4.6g as well.

User Voices

I wanted to let you know that I installed FacileForms with no problems. I have updated several versions and love the simple update procedure. I started playing with FF and I think it will be a great tool for my Mambo projects. I recently tried using a data input form which successfully created and populated a mysql table. I then used the "Query List" feature using the "Rock'n'Roll dance contest" sample as a starting point and I love the results.   I now have an easy way to enter organization members into a mysql database from the web site and a nice looking form displaying those members on that same site. Very simple yet very functional. Mambo and FacileForms look like a good match to me.  My hat goes off to all that are involved in creating this tool. Thanks!

Chris Smith

A WIKI has been opened where we would like to consolidate all available and future documentation. Our vision is to start as a collection of articles and howtos for topics of special interest and let it grow into a comprehensive source of information, not only for FacileForms itself, but also for packages you may want to share with the community.

You can find the WIKI by clicking the Documentation menu item on the left side, or by the URL http://www.facileforms.biz/wiki.
